Nine Mile Canyon Road
Chimney Peak Back Country Byway is a sometimes
maintained dirt road with areas of loose sand. Great
views await those who dare venture this way...
It is easier to drive in from the north via Hwy.395
Nine Mile Canyon Road is paved.

Donations to help with costs
Picnic tables, metal firerings, outhouses
No garbage service.
There are good campsites spread throughout the trees.
The road continues for about 1/2 miles with more
campsites hidden up in the hills and valleys.
Don't drink the water. Contains high levels of uranium.
Bear warnings are posted on the outhouse.

DIRECTIONS:
From Lake Isabella
Take Highway 178 east for 20 miles
Turn left on Canebrake Road.

From Hwy. 395
Between Little Lake and Pearsonville
Turn west on Nine Mile Canyon Road
Nine Mile Canyon is 10 miles of steep upgrades
The turn for Chimney Creek is 10 miles
Chimney Creek Campground is 4 miles
NOTE:
If entering from Hwy.178 the road has areas of loose sand.
We never made it from this direction with a passenger car.

Memorial day weekend and not too many other
campers. You meet some good people out here.
If you stay on the road to Kennedy Meadows
it will turn into SHERMAN PASS ROAD
