You can camp just about anywhere
with roads winding throughout the

if you travel away from the beaten
path... take extra precautions.

In 2005 the whole desert went crazy
with colors. The winter bought more
moisture than normal.

DIRECTIONS:
From I-8 at Gila Bend
Take Hwy.85 south towards Ajo
Continue past the town of Why
The free camp area is just north of
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
Hwy.85 / Milepost 55
(About 1 1/2 miles south from Why)
You will see a Rest Area / Roadside Table
The camping area is on the opposite side
of the road from the rest area. There are
no signs concerning camping and you might
have to look around for the entrance. If you
see some RVs parked out in the desert, then
you are at the right place.
NOTE:
There is only one rest area on this road
with garbage cans, so find this and the
entrance is almost just the opposite side
of the road. See photos near top of page.

There is a check point north of Organ Pipe
Cactus National Monument on Hwy 85.
Don't be drinking or anything stupid.
UPDATE:
New check point on Hwy.85 near I-8

The Boneyard
The Boneyard
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is home to thousands
of outdated aeroplanes and helicopters mothballed by the
United States Air Force and other allied forces. The 2,600
acre facility is the size of 1,300 football pitches and sprawled
across the desert in Tucson, Arizona and houses the 309th
Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG)
This 60 year-old facility is America's only storehouse for
out-of-service aircraft.

Flares filled the sky in what must of been
military maneuvers. Laid down in patterns
appearing like lights on a UFO... your
imagination is stimulated...
Camped here Feb. 19, 2009
More people and RVs than ever before.
It was very crowded. Seen more weird
lights in a triangle shape. Figured it must
be somebody with flashlights until they
rotated. Only about 100 yards away,
we can't figure out what it was.

There are several new cattle feed lots on
the I-8 corridor towards Tuscon. You know
the places that smell so horrible with thousands
of cows are crammed into a small area...
