FORTRESS OF ARCHES
There are over 20 natural arches located
within the Fortress of Arches. West from
the Face Rock on Whitney Portal Road.

There are two arches forming a bird mask.
It could also be called "Twin Arches"

Bird Mask Arch is difficult to access and
requires some climbing skills.

From Lone Pine, CA / Hwy.395
(At the only stop light in town)
Turn west on Whitney Portal Road
About 2 miles park opposite Face Rock.
Find a trail across Lone Pine Creek
Walk eastbound and follow trail
Bird Mask Arch can be viewed near the
top of the rock formations and is a difficult
climb. There are no trails to this arch...
It may be easier to access from the south,
but can't view the arch from this direction.
From the parking area, you have to find
a path across Lone Pine Creek. Then walk
Fortress of Arches can be accessed just west
from Indian Head Arch. There is a narrow slot
canyon. Most of the trails down into the Fortress
of Arches are difficult to locate.
Whitney Portal Road is paved.
Movie Flat Road is a maintained
dirt surface with washboards.
