Kofa NWR was established in 1939 for the protection
of desert bighorn sheep. The refuge encompasses 660,000
acres of the Sonoran Desert.

Crystal Hill

There are free camping areas along the base of
Crystal Hill with some good shade spots and the
cell phone had a strong, clear signal. The coyotes
howled throughout the night, getting up close and
personal, within a couple hundred yards, but never
came into the camp area.

Early morning and late afternoon are
usually the best times to see wildlife.

Hwy 95 / Milepost 95
Between Yuma and Quartzsite Arizona.
Apx. 8 miles south of Quartzsite
You will see the sign for Crystal Hill.

3 miles to Kofa NWR Boundary
and information boards.

several other camp areas.

Rock hounding and rock collecting for
noncommercial purposes, is designated to
a track known as "CRYSTAL HILL AREA".
Possession of rocks is limited to 10 specimens
or 10 pounds in any 12 month period. Rock or
mineral collection is limited to minerals that are
exposed and collectible without the use of tools.
Metal detectors are considered tools. Digging,
including the use of simple hand tools prohibited.

Purified/ Filtered drinking water in Quartzsite.
Shower at Q Laundromat in Quartzsite $5 per person.
Showers at Lake Havasu State Park $7 per car.
Cheapest gas in Parker or Lake Havasu City.
