You are on top of a mountain... It is a good
The views are spectacular. You are higher than
most of the other mountains, can almost touch
heaven from here... maybe this is heaven.
Campfire permits are not required at Bear Campground.
Picnic tables, metal fire rings, and outhouse.
Charcoal and gas fires allowed without permit.
Campfires allowed in metal firerings.
The first three miles of Road 7N23 is narrow
with steep uphill grades. There are ruts and
washouts. At first we asked is it worth it and
then punched the gas. It was risky for a pas-
senger car, but if you take it slow and easy,
there should be no problems. At the summit,
Road 7N23 winds along the mountain top and
there are camp spots scattered throughout area.
From I-5 (apx. 50 miles north of Los Angeles)
From I-5 (apx. 5 South of Tejon Pass),
Exit at Hwy.138 towards Lancaster.
Apx. 4 miles turn on County Road N2
Apx. 2 miles is a junction.
Stay on Road 8N04/ The Old Ridge Route
5 more miles and you will see the sign for
Bear Campground 9 miles
Sawmill Campground 14 miles
Road 7N23 is narrow and steep uphill
grades, with ruts and washouts.
Check the weather forecast, but don't always
believe forecast... This week was presumably
sunny and warm every day, but it snowed
several inches and the road was a sheet of ice.
