_ CINCINNATI,
Dec.24. - The glove
contest between John Sullivan, of Boston,
and Professor Donaldson, of Cleveland,
was fought last night, at the Pacific Garden,
and was witnessed by a few favored sport-
ing men. Hard small gloves were used.
Tom Ryan and Johnny Morman seconded
Sullivan, and Dan Crutchley and Abe
Smith seconded Donaldson.
_ Time
was called at 11:18, and the men
went at it in dead earnest. Ten rounds were
fought.
_ The
first round was won by Sullivan,
who floored Donaldson with a terrible
blow on the right side of the head.
_ In
the second round Donaldson went
down in a heap.
_ Third
round - Sullivan had it all his own
way, and easily downed Donaldson.
_ Fourth
round - Sullivan knocked Donald-
son down with a terrible blow in the
mouth, which drew first blood.
_ Fifth
round - Donaldson was struck in
the left jaw and went down.
_ Sixth
round - they forced each other and
Donaldson went down immediately from a
blow delivered by Sullivan's terrible left.
_ In
the seventh round a foul was claimed
with ground that Sullivan had struck
Donaldson after he was down. Foul not
allowed.
_ In
the eighth and ninth rounds Donald-
son went down on purpose to avoid pun-
ishment.
_ In
the tenth and deciding round, Don-
aldson received a terrible punishing. He
grsped Sullivan around the neck, but
Sullivan mauled him on top of the head
until Donaldson was knocked down.
_ When
time was called for the eleventh
round Donaldson failed to respond and
gave up. The fight lasted just twenty-two
minutes.
