The Slip, and is Once
More at Large

ALBANY, N.Y., February 16.
Special Dispatch to the Intelligencer.
Paddy Ryan, the prize fighter, was ar-
rested last evening on a requisition from
the Governor of West Virginia, for par-
ticipation in the fight with Goss in that
State last summer. This morning Ryan
requested permission to visit his saloon to
arrange business matters and was accom-
panied there by on of the officers. After
entering the saloon a crowd collected and
he walked out, the crowd holing the
door shut in the face of the officer pre-
venting pursuit.
Ryan was taken into custody Tuesday
night, at a place of amusement, by Ex-Chief
of Police Sweeny, of Wheeling, and Detec-
tive Ryland, of New York, on a requisi-
tion. He was taken to the station house
and while awaiting the train for New
York, Chief Sweeny was served with a
writ of habeas corpus, issued by Recorder
Gould, returnable this morning. The
officers and Ryan spent the night at the
Globe Hotel. This morning, on  pretext
of business, Ryan, in company with the
officers, visited Ryan's saloon, on State
Street, and from thence made his escape,
assisted by friends. No trace of the fugi-
tive.
