THE UNION AND ADVERTISER
(ROCHESTER, NEW YORK)
TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 1911

California's "hope of the white
race," who may meet Jack Johnson,
the negro champion heavyweight of
the world, in London, during corona-
tion week, next June. Jack Gleason,
the famous promoter of the Jefferies-
Johnson match, now in Chicago
spending his share of the $270,000
house at Reno, is said to be one of
the promoters of the coming match.
H. Frazee, a former partner of Hugh
McIntosh, the Austrailian promoter,
has let it be known that he had made
a bid of $50,000 for a battle between
Kaufman and Johnson during corona-
tion week. Gleason and Frazee are to
be partners in the promotion of the
fight. Both partners state that John-
son has agreed to meet Kaufman for
the $50,000 purse, but that he was
holding out for $45,000 for his end.
Kaufman, it is known, would be un-
willing to fight for $5,000, but the
promoters think the two big fellows
will be able to agree on the division
of the spoils.
